Finance Assurance & Systems Accountant


Hāpaitia, a subsidiary of the eight Industry Skills Boards (ISBs), is responsible for providing support services for the ISBs. Hāpaitia’s teams include Finance, People & Culture and IT. 

Te Āhua o Te Tūranga – The nature of the position

Reporting to our Finance Team Lead, the Hāpaitia Finance team is a busy, dedicated team of finance and accounting professionals. We are now looking for a Finance Assurance & Systems Accountant to ensure our systems and internal controls are operating at optimal levels.

You will work alongside our Finance Team Lead to ensure that Hāpaitia has sound financial, accounting and internal control policies, systems and processes. You will also support Industry Skills Boards within budgeting, forecasting and the provision of management accounting reports.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and enhance financial systems (e.g. Sage Intacct, Emburse), including chart of accounts, cost centres, user access, and system structures.
  • Ensure strong internal controls and financial assurance, including compliance with policies, quarterly control checks, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Deliver management accounting services, including budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of monthly and periodic financial reports.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making for project managers, cost centre managers, and senior leadership.

If you have the following skills and experience:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting with CA, CPA or similar (or working towards professional qualification)
  • Relevant experience working in commercial or government sector finance roles for at least 3 years
  • Experience in management of FMIS systems and monitoring internal control compliance is desirable
  • Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel & Word) skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability in developing relationships within a team and across a business
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with appropriate attention to detail, and proven application of these to achieve strong performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of and experience in New Zealand Public Sector Finance
  • Strong background in technical financial accounting
